Negative thinking starts with a thought, a feeling or something that someone said to you, and then it starts to take root within you, you then start feeling sorry for yourself or start worrying or start thinking what you are doing is not worth it. Negative thinking can be very toxic to you and the people around and it will hold you back from achieving your dreams and living your best life.
I want to share with you guys tips on how to stop negative thinking that have helped, I have had my share of negative thoughts, I always have negative thoughts when I want to start something whether it’s starting a new relationship on start working on a project. I realized that whatever I think comes to past whether it’s negative or positive and this is something that you need to know whatever you manifest on yourself will come to past whether it’s positive or negative.
How To Stop Negative Thoughts
Practice Gratitude: One of the ways to stop negative thinking is to practice gratitude, people have different ways of how they express their gratitude, I always express myself when I am about to sleep. I express how grateful for life, for everything every single night, so you should practice gratitude finds ways to express it whether it’s by writing it down or saying it out loud.
Practice Self Talk: Another tip on how to stop negative thoughts is to practice self talk, whenever I feel a negative thoughts coming up, I start talking to myself out loud (yes I talk to myself out loud, my sisters can attest to it).
At first it was a way for me to kill boredom when I was little but as I grew, it became a part of me, if I feel like my thoughts are going the wrong way, I start talking to myself and finding out what exactly is going on but this might not work for everyone but you can give it a shot.
Do Yoga/Meditate: Another thing I started this year was yoga, I tried meditating but I just wouldn’t do it, (my mind has a mind of its own) Anyways, I started Yoga and it is fantastic, I love it, after yoga practice I always feel energized and ready to face work for the day, I rarely have negative thoughts after doing yoga.
Smile More: Another tip on how to stop negative thoughts is to smile more, A smile can go a long way, I find little things that can bring a smile to my face, you can also find things can bring a smile to your face whether it’s watching funny videos, or remember a happy moment from your childhood.
Have Positive Thoughts When Negative Thoughts Sets In: Tip number five on how to stop negative thoughts is to have positive thoughts when negative ones sets in, this can be a bit hard for people well it was for me but I believe that when you practice more on it, you will see results.
Listen To Music/Sing: This tip is the one I would highly recommend, we all to music and there is always something for each of our moods, music can help with negative thoughts when you start having them just put on a music and sing along. Music has helped a lot in my life,
I literally can’t do anything without listening to music, I feel like it always knows my mood especially if I put it in shuffle, it plays happy, dance songs whenever I am in a high mood and it plays moody songs when am down, I feel like that happens to a lot of people. Let me know if it happens to you in the comment below.
Spend Time With Positive People: Another tip on how to stop negative thoughts is to spend time with positive people, this is very important because the more people you surround yourself with who have positive attitude towards life, it’s going to rub off on you. I share this on my post on How i dealt with depression, I share my story in this post how my friends was huge part in my dealing with depression ( I am still dealing with depression but it is not as much as it was three years ago)
UnCover The Root of the Negative Thoughts: Number seven tip on how to stop negative thinking is to uncover the root of the negative thoughts, you have to become an investigator so that you can uncover the source or reason why you are having negative thoughts, once that is done, you can begin to avoid or face the issue head-on.
Stop Comparing Yourself To Other: Honestly we humans do this a lot sometimes we do it consciously sometimes we don’t even know that we are doing it and with the presence of social media in our lives, it has been an everyday thing.
I stopped going on instagram because of this, Evey single time I logged in, there always that one person that I always compared myself to, when I realized that it wasn’t helping my mental health, I stopped going on instagram now I only go there to check out my blog page and interact with other bloggers other than that I don’t do anything. Basically what I am trying to say is that stop comparing yourself to other people, God created you beautifully, you are special in your own way, don’t let any one tell you otherwise.
Do More, Judge less: The last tip on how to stop negative thoughts is to do more and judge less, whether we know it or not we judge people whether it’s good or bad we do it and that needs to stop, if you want to stop your negative thinking then you need to start doing more work on yourself and your goals and stop judging others .
That is all the tips I have for you on how to stop negative thoughts and start having a positive mindset so that you can achieve your goals and dreams in life. If you have any suggestions let me know in the comments below.
Don’t forget to WASH YOUR HANDS REGULARLY and PRACTICE SOCIAL DISTANCING, STAY SAFE Guys.

I have been doing a lot of these things lately too especially positive self-talk, smiling more, thinking of positive thoughts when negative thoughts set in (my therapist recently recommended this one to me to reduce going through it since it upsets me so much), listening to music (one of my top favorite forms of self-care), spending time with positive people (I love volunteering at special needs events), uncovering the root of the negative thoughts (this is one of the very helpful key steps to problem-solving), and comparing oneself to others less.
